She performed with her band in Orange City three years ago\, leaving a lasting impression. Her Iowa fan base is thrilled to welcome the powerhouse singer-songwriter back. \n“She has drawn quite the following\,” says Jane Vogel of Birdhouse Rentals\, co-sponsor of the Onstage Orange City concert. “Her music has an uplifting message\, and it draws all ages. It’s the kind of music you want to get up and dance to.” \nHunt’s tour stop will feature boogie-worthy new music from “The Beautiful Bones” — her sixth album. \nShe describes her toe-tapping tunes as a combination of blues\, roots\, Americana and R&B. \n“A lot of it is upbeat with a few ballads. I’m really influenced by traditional gospel music\, and most of the things are pretty uplifting and high energy\,” Hunt says.\n \nHunt’s music has wide-reaching appeal. \n“As a family\, we’ve been following Kelley Hunt for 15 years\,” says Lisa Burg of Orange City. Burg’s employer — Orange City Area Health System — is a co-sponsor of the concert. “Our children became fans. She’s an incredible singer. Everything she has produced we’ve loved. SUMMARY:Onstage Orange City: Festival Latino
DESCRIPTION:Festival Latino — a free outdoor event highlighting Hispanic heritage — will fill Orange City’s Windmill Park from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday\, June 24. The event is part of Orange City Arts’ Onstage Orange City summer series. \nThe fourth annual community-wide festival will feature authentic Latin cuisine\, an interactive kids’ zone featuring free crafts and activities\, and live music from internationally-known Latin fusion band Tropicante. \n“The Hispanic population has begun to be an important part of the Orange City community\, and it’s important to have shared spaces where we can learn to understand each other and learn about each other’s cultures\,” says Olga Alvarado\, an Orange City Arts board member of Colombian descent who helped plan the event. \nWith nearly 10 percent of Sioux County identifying as Hispanic according to the 2013 Census\, the event aims to foster deeper cultural understanding while providing top-notch food and quality entertainment. \nTropicante\, an energetic Latin-style band led by singers Ed East (Panamanian) and Karin Stein (Colombian)\, will have attendees dancing cumbias\, merengues\, sambas and other irresistible Latin rhythms. \n“Our principal goal is always to have people’s minds opened to the diversity of Latin American cultures through a beautiful\, fun medium — music\,” Stein said. \nStein and East will host a free\, all-ages interactive percussion workshop at 6:15 p.m. before their performance at 7 p.m. \nSeparate from the larger band\, the duo (known as Calle Sur\, right) will also provide a free children’s workshop for grades kindergarten through fifth at 1 pm at the Orange City Public Library. The participants will make simple instruments\, sing\, dance\, and act their way through a Brazilian rain forest. \nFree transportation from Sioux Center will be available. A bus will leave the Centre Mall parking lot at 6 and 6:30 p.m.\, with rides returning from Orange City back to Sioux Center at 8:30 and 9 p.m. \nHarold Heie\, chair of the Festival Latino planning team and chair of CASA (Center for Assistance\, Service\, and Advocacy)\, says Festival Latino is a collaborative effort that aims to bring people together. \n“Part of it is just getting to know one another\,” Heie says. “When you get to know people\, things always change.” \nAttendees are invited to wear traditional clothing from their country of origin. \nFestival Latino made possible by CASA\, Center Fresh Group\, Hands Around the World\, Natural Food Holdings\, Birdhouse Rentals\, Western Iowa Dairy Alliance and Al & Carol Kramer\, in conjunction with Orange City Arts. \nUnity Christian Knight Center in Orange City is the event’s rain location. DESCRIPTION:ORANGE CITY – The Scottish folk song Loch Lomond and music from The Lord of the Rings will be featured in the Orange City Area Community Band concert Wednesday\, June 17. \nThe Community Band will take the stage at 7:00pm for its first 2015 concert in Orange City’s Windmill Park\, part of the Onstage Orange City summer series. Dan Mangold is the director\, taking over from long-time community band conductor Carla Van Beek.\nMangold\, originally from Sioux Rapids\, is band director at MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School\, assistant director for the Pride of the Dutchmen marching band\, and director of the MOC-FV High full orchestra. He is a trumpeter in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra and directed the orchestra for the Tulip Festival night show\, Mary Poppins. For several years Mangold played trumpet in the Orange City Area Community Band.\nThe June 17 concert will feature a variety of music\, including the rousing Cut to the Chase by Todd Stalter; a Spanish march by Texidor\, Amparito Roca; and a medley from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.\nThe band will also play Frank Ticheli’s beautiful arrangement of the Scottish folksong\, Loch Lomond; a standard wind piece by Charles Carter\, Overture for Winds; and the hymn Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.\nThe National Emblem March\, a classic American band march\, plus the Star Spangled Banner\, will round out the evening.\nAssistant to the community band director is Char Ten Clay.\nCome early (5:00-7:00pm) for grilled hot dogs\, chips and ice cream\, courtesy of Iowa State Bank. DESCRIPTION:ORANGE CITY – Orange City Arts’ annual celebration of flowering gardens\, music\, art – and irresistible sweets – is coming soon. The 2015 Summer Suites will be held Wednesday\, June 10 in three backyard gardens in Orange City. \nThe event begins at 6:30 p.m. \nThe “progressive concert” will feature The Copoetics of Sioux Falls\, the Le Mars Flute Choir and several visual artists working while the public watches\, with violinist Bethany Dykstra gracing that garden with music. \n• The Copoetics — Dan Finch and Louisa Soli-Holt — invite Summer Suites guests to enjoy their guitar and ukelele\, and Louisa’s “strikingly clear and penetrating voice.” A few years ago\, both left South Dakota for Denver; both taught secondary school; both adored The Grateful Dead and Joni Mitchell. But Louisa’s heart was captured by Dan\, the 5-string ukelele and most recently\, their newborn son. The couple\, now living in Sioux Falls\, has traveled 10\,000 miles\, performing across the American West and educating many people on the differences between North Dakota and South Dakota. \nTheir name\, The Copoetics? “It represents the collective poems of life we all share and create every day\,” said Louisa.  http://thecopoetics.com \n• The Le Mars Flute Choir brings together flutists from Le Mars\, Marcus\, Sioux City and Orange City… and performs all kinds of music\, from grand flute quartets to jazz. Watch for C flutes\, G flutes and piccolos. \nFor Summer Suites\, the seven-member choir will play a lovely variety\, including Irish lilts\, a rag\, Camptown Races\, a light classical piece by Boyce and the fun Little Red Monkey by Jordan. Another Summer Suites performance on June 10 is the Le Mars Flu \nLeft to right are Kathy Moore\, Sue Ashenfelter and Dr. James Schroeder of Le Mars; Lynn Gross of Sioux City; Glenda Drennen of Le Mars; June Palleson of Marcus; and Donna Mortenson of Orange City. \n• Visual artists\, with violinist Bethany Dykstra\, will grace the third garden. While attendees watch\, seven visual artists will work.  Bethany Dykstra\, who has played violin for 11 years as part of eight honor orchestras and now the Northwestern College Chamber Orchestra\, will perform pieces by Ten Have\, Handel and Bach\, accompanied by Kate Noteboom. \nVisual artists: Emilee Berry sat on a poppy-covered stone staircase in Greece\, and discovered the connection between the “light\, organic feel of nature” and hard\, rough architecture. So she loves both strong lines and repetition\, and movement and texture. A recent award-winning art graduate from Northwestern College\, originally from Battle Creek\, she does sculpture\, printmaking and photography\, and will paint at Summer Suites. \nMary Jane Davidson\, of Manitoba—and now Sioux City\, comes from a family of artists\, and learned about painting/ dying on silk from her sister. She stretches white silk\, then hand-paints\, using a variety of methods. Some are unpredictable designs\, others complex and defined\, with the help of gutta or soy wax resists. Many of Davidson’s paintings are on silk scarves. \nRon Erickson\, of Remsen\, has been woodturning for 15 years\, using wood from fallen trees to create bowls\, Christmas ornaments and small boxes. He loves trying new things. It’s a hobby\, so he doesn’t advertise\, but he has exhibited his work in Spencer and Storm Lake. We’re lucky to have Erickson for Summer Suites\, since his June through August priority is not woodturning\, but golf. \nLynne Hubers\, of Orange City\, learned to quilt from a friend in ’97\, and hasn’t looked back. She loves choosing colors\, working with beautiful fabrics\, and designing. She enjoys geometric quilting\, appreciates the finesse of traditional quilting\, and especially likes the slow pace of appliqué work. She’s done one hand-quilted wallhanging — otherwise it’s machine quilting and piecing for Hubers. \n\n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMarena Nachtigall\, a SE Iowa native\, studied art at Hesston and Bethel Colleges in Kansas\, graduating in ’03. She opened Earth & Art\, ceramics and floral design in Noble. Functional wheel-thrown ceramics is the basis for her work\, with an emphasis on carved and beaded embellishments. Currently Nachtigall and her family live in Orange City. \n \n  \nLauren and Barb Ochsner have spent a combined 50-plus years on custom glasswork and framing\, from their shop — Golden Prairie Art — of Maurice. They have designed and created stained glass for many area churches\, plus Prairie Winds\, the Dordt College library and Orange City Area Health System. They will demonstrate processes in creating stained glass art. \n  \nJudy Thompson\, watercolor artist originally from Chicago and now Orange City\, painted the cover art for the recently published Laura Ingalls Wilder autobiography. Her art has been exhibited across the Midwest\, and she has done many artist residencies\, including two at national parks. Acclaimed as “capturing a sense of place\,” Thompsons’ recent work includes her “Homestead Series.” \nSome artists will offer their art for sale at Summer Suites. \nSummer Suites will be held in the backyard gardens of Sally and Laird Edman (featuring The Copoetics)\, Jodi and Kent McDonough (visual artists and violinist Bethany Dykstra) and Anita and Jack Vogel (Le Mars Flute Choir). \nThe event\, part of the Onstage Orange City series\, is sponsored by Orange City Arts. Instead of a show in Windmill Park\, the event happens in three backyards. \nAdvance tickets are necessary\, at $10 for adults and $7 for students if purchased by June 6 at the Orange City Arts office\, Orange City town hall and Dove Christian Book Store. Using a similar process\, you will create beautiful translucent watercolor paintings on textured Japanese paper. Judy will demonstrate and instruct each step of this unique and fascinating process. Come join us for a fun\, hands-on workshop. Adult learners of all levels are welcome. \nClass members will complete a tulip painting similar to the one below. Each student will use the same template\, but all of the paintings will be unique. \nThe day will include a break for lunch. \nJudy Thompson’s artwork has received regional and national awards and has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the Midwest. She has been selected twice as an Artist-in-Residence with the National Park System (Nebraska and South Dakota)\, and is an approved teaching artist for the Nebraska Arts Council. Through a grant\, awarded by the Iowa Arts Council\, her Homestead Series has toured the Midwest to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Homestead Act. DESCRIPTION:Moon Hooch — an energetic trio with genre-bending music — is performing a free show Wed.\, June 3\, at 7 p.m. at Windmill Park in Orange City. \nWhen Orange City Arts members heard locals buzzing about the band’s unique sound — two souped-up saxophones and a drum — they knew they had to see if they’d perform for the Onstage Orange City series. \nSteve Mahr\, co-owner of The Old Factory\, became entranced with the band’s wailing sax and staccato snare after watching them perform in NPR’s popular Tiny Desk Concert series. \n“I’m not sure what others’ responses are\, seeing a wild man blowing the sax with a traffic cone as a mute – but mine was love at first sight\,” Mahr said. \nHis enthusiasm for the “cave music” band spread to Janine Calsbeek\, director of Orange City Arts\, who reached out to the band’s reps. \nTo her surprise\, Moon Hooch — comprised of saxophonists Mike Wilbur and Wenzl McGowen\, and drummer James Muschler — had an open date available on their tour from Ohio to Minnesota\, and were interested in making a pit stop in Iowa. \nThere was just one minor caveat — Orange City Arts had to drum up the funds to keep the show free. Mahr stepped in to help fundraise\, and Old Factory Coffee Shop\, along with Orange City’s Quatro Composites™\, joined as corporate sponsors for the free outdoor event. \nThe concert is open to all ages\, and the original\, unexpected tunes are sure to wow the young — and young at heart. But to describe the band’s sound? That’s a tough one. They have an inventive style all their own — something between jazz and dubstep\, with a rock-vibe for good measure. \nEach band member studied in New York at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Their stylistic choices — like using modified saxophones to create pulsing beats — creates indescribable music. \nThe band (which provides soundtracks for famously epic NYC subway dance parties\, according to The New Yorker) describes their work “like house music\, but more wild\, more jagged\, more free\, more natural to live in.” \nMoon Hooch got its start playing on subway platforms\, and quickly grew a devoted fanbase that led to a national tour with They Might Be Giants\, and multiple gigs on the festival circuit. \n“Moon Hooch is amazing! They’re over the top\,” Calsbeek said. “Very energetic and crazy. Their music is not for the faint of heart — it’s something different and I think it’ll be appealing to a lot of ages.” \nJudging from previous shows\, Moon Hooch’s power-packed performance promises to get audience members talking — and maybe even dancing out of their seats. Attendees are invited to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. DESCRIPTION:Three bands will perform during Tulip Festival to kick off the Orange City Arts Council’s annual summer series\, Onstage Orange City.\nOrange City’s own Usual Suspects (pictured above: Steve Mason\, John Hubers\, Sam Martin\, Gary Reinders & Joel Westerholm) will perform on Thursday night\, May 14. The band plays a variety of musical styles\, including classic acoustic-based pop and rock\, blues\, contemporary folk and original songs. The Usual Suspects will also perform during Tulip Festival’s ArtBurst event on Saturday\, May 16\, from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. in the Straatmarkt.\nNow Serving 7 (right)\, a Christian electro-coustic pop/rock band based in Pella\, Iowa\, will take the stage on Friday night\, May 15. They have performed with artists like Jeremy Camp and Superchick and at official NASCAR events. Making their third consecutive-year appearance at Tulip Festival\, Now Serving 7 will perform songs from their debut album\, “I Will Go.”\nDamon Dotson (below left) is a singer-songwriter originally from Okoboji\, Iowa. He performs in a variety of venues throughout the Midwest\, including Minneapolis\, Omaha and Chicago. He has opened for artists Willie Nelson and the Beach Boys\, among others. Dotson and his band members will perform songs from their new and rising album\, “Tumblin’\,”on Saturday night\, May 16.\n“We’re excited to partner with the Orange City Arts Council to open their summer series during Tulip Festival\,” says Juliana Pennings\, Tulip Festival & Community Tourism Director. “We are grateful for the many ways the Orange City Arts Council continues to promote and bring the arts to our community.”\nThe concerts will take place at the band shell in Windmill Park at 7:30 p.m. each evening\, and there is no cost to attend. DESCRIPTION:ORANGE CITY – Acclaimed classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform in Orange City Friday\, October 3 at 7:00pm at the Orange City Public Library\, part of a nationwide tour. \nFletcher began guitar study at age seven\, and a few years later\, spent a week in a master class with José Tomás\, assistant teacher to Andrés Segovia. Fletcher\, at age 12\, was the youngest student to perform. He earned his masters in music from the Eastman School of Music\, under Nicholas Goluses. \nHe has performed across the country\, making his New York debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in ’07\, and\, in 2010\, playing to a sold-out crowd. \nFletcher’s many recordings include Federico Mompou: Guitar Works. In Barcelona\, when Fletcher performed for Mompou’s widow\, Carmen Bravo\, she commented on Fletcher’s “high technical level” and “refined sensibility.” \nHis most recent album features the music of Edvard Grieg\, transcribed by Fletcher. His October 3 program will feature music by Grieg\, Praetorius\, Frescobaldi\, and Villa-Lobos plus Jesu\, Joy of Man’s Desiring by Bach\, Fandango by Spanish composer Rodrigo\, and Four Catalan Folksongs by Llobet. \nHe also performs the traditional Shaker hymn\, Simple Gifts. The last half of this guitar setting modulates down a step to C major. It’s the final Onstage Orange City show of summer 2014\, sponsored by the Orange City Arts Council. From Prairie de Chien\, WI\, the duo has performed and led worship together for years\, and competed in NCDC here last year. They sing\, with Russell accompanying on guitar or piano. \nAmy Noelck will take the stage at 7:30pm. Noelck\, who has roots in Iowa\, performs songs of love\, faith\, heartbreak and hope. “I try to write music with lyrics that reveal the transparency of life… I write about brokenness so those that are hurting and longing for something to fulfill them\, will see that they are not alone.  We are constantly searching for peace and joy\, but I am confident that lasting peace and joy cannot be found in anything\, unless first found in Jesus.” \nThe proceeds from her album go to anti-human trafficking organizations around the world\, especially Traffick 911\, the Dallas/ Fort Worth organization working primarily with children; and the A21 Campaign\, an organization which raises awareness\, prevents future trafficking\, takes legal action and provides rehabilitation services for survivors. \nNoelck works with family life and children’s ministry in a Dallas church\, and is looking into opportunities to work as a singer-songwriter\, teaching music to orphans overseas. \nThe concert will not be Windmill Park or the Northwestern College Green. This comic stunt juggler from St. Cloud is bringing his nuttiness in Orange City’s Windmill Park Wednesday\, Aug. 20 at 7:00pm. \nWilson’s show is part of the Orange City Arts Council’s Onstage Orange City series. Sponsors are Diamond Vogel Paint and Four-Way Roofing of Alton. \nWilson grew up skiing\, skateboarding and waterskiing\, all perfect for this self-described “introverted show-off.” His life changed when a friend loaned him professional juggling equipment… and he checked out jugglers at the Minnesota Renaissance Fair. So when he considered college and career options a few months later\, he decided to set his sights on becoming a professional juggler. \nHe succeeded\, and has been a crowd favorite at the Renaissance Fair for more than three decades. \nWilson likes performing stunts that involve the whole body. Rather than simply standing still while throwing things\, he now has some bizarre skills: rope walking\, ball spinning\, balancing on a ladder\, manipulating objects on mouthsticks\, and more. At age 50\, he mastered balancing on a ladder… on a rope… on fire! \nIn addition to manipulating props\, Wilson also builds them\, for himself and other professional jugglers. DESCRIPTION:ORANGE CITY – The Orange City Area Community Band will take the stage for its final 2014 concert on Wed. July 30 in Orange City’s Windmill Park. As we look to revitalize the State Historical Building in Iowa\, we invite you to help shape the vision for the future while fostering a greater sense of connectivity and shared purpose across our state. \n  \nAbout the Community Conversations: \nThe Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs is fully engaged in Master Planning for the State Historical Building of Iowa Revitalization.  As a part of the Master Planning\, we are conducting Community Conversations to hear from Iowans as they give input on the visitor experience at the State Historical Building\, its Museum and Library\, along with a potential visitor center for the Capitol Complex.   Since the State Historical Building is the hub for the DCA\, it serves as the heart and soul of our statewide outreach and funding programs.  This is the opportunity for Iowans to have input as we develop our vision for the future for all of the quality of life initiatives under the DCA umbrella.  We are traveling across the state in July for Community Conversation Town Hall Meetings.

DESCRIPTION:ORANGE CITY – A six-piece “perfectly rounded\, energetic blues band” from New York\, the Chris O’Leary Band\, takes the stage Wednesday\, July 23 at Windmill Park in Orange City. It’s the Onstage Orange City series\, sponsored by Revival Animal Health in conjunction with the Orange City Arts Council. \nThe evening begins with Revival’s annual pet costume contest\, at 6:00pm. All local pet owners are invited to join the fun; pets will be judged for presentation\, uniqueness and creativity. \nAt 7:00pm\, the Chris O’Leary Band takes the stage. \nO’Leary spent many years as frontman\, lead singer and harmonica player for Levon Helm. He has appeared on stage with many artists: Bobby Keys of the Rolling Stones\, The Fabulous Thunderbirds\, Jimmy Vivino\, James Cotton\, Dan Akroyd and more. \nHe has moved on to his own 6-piece band and his first release “Mr. Used to Be” won the 2011 Blues Music Award (Memphis) and the 2011 Illinois Blues Blast Award (Chicago) for “Best New Artist Debut”. DESCRIPTION:Orange City\, IA – On Wednesday\, July 16\, Orange City will hold its third Festival Latino\, an event that celebrates diversity and appreciates Latin culture.  The Onstage Orange City event will be 5:00-8:30pm at Windmill Park. \nThe evening begins at 5:00pm. Experience arts and crafts\, mural painting\, games\, and a “fun zone” for kids between 5:30 and 7:30.  Starting at 5:00 and going until 7:00\, authentic Latin cuisine will be available for purchase and enjoyment.  The main event is Mariachi Los Rancheros from Hawarden\, playing from 7:00 to 8:00. DESCRIPTION:  \nORANGE CITY – It’s been 17 years. Wednesday\, July 9 will be Carla Van Beek’s final evening as director of the Orange City Area Community Band. \nThe concert\, part of the Onstage Orange City series\, will begin at 7:00pm in Windmill Park. Sponsors are CIVCO Medical Solutions and Fareway\, in conjunction with the Orange City Arts Council. \nVan Beek began as director of the Community Band in 1997\, recruited by Joyce Bloemendaal\, then director of the Arts Council. Of course\, Van Beek and music have been a duo all of her life… young Carla played piano and flute\, and teenage Carla served as drum major for the Rock Valley marching band. She fell in love with all three. \nAfter the Van Beek children started school\, she returned to college at Northwestern\, then taught at Hospers Christian School. She became band director at Unity Christian High in ’96. \nAnd she played in the community band\, under directors Steve Connell and Brad Miedema\, prior to taking the baton herself. \nIt’s amazing\, said Van Beek\, that these high school and adult musicians can get together for one night of rehearsal – “90 minutes in a hot and humid garage\, the back of the bandshell” – and create wonderful music. Obviously they are outstanding musicians\, she said. \nOf course\, those night-before-the-concert rehearsals don’t always go smoothly. Plans change\, and Van Beek hustles to find another trumpeter or percussionist. Or the weather refuses to cooperate. \n“One rehearsal night\, the tornado siren went off… we ended up in the basement of the Vogel paint store!” she said. Dave Bloemendaal\, tuba player for the band\, had his keys to the Vogel-Vande Brake store\, and led the troops\, leaving his oversized instrument to fend for itself. \nVan Beek has loved finding music with audience appeal: marches\, musicals\, Disney songs\, hymn arrangements\, and patriotic tunes. In fact\, her first concert as director – July 9\, ’97 – was a patriotic concert\, so July 9\, ’14 will be also. The show will include Washington Post March\, Semper Fidelis\, Stars and Stripes\, El Capitan\, Colonel Bogey\, and Armed Forces Salute. \nVan Beek commends the Orange City Arts Council and City of Orange City for their long commitment to the band… and she has so many people to thank\, including the audience\, the performers\, and her husband Arlo\, that she could go on for days. \nThe July 9 concert will be the second community band concert this summer. The final will be held July 30\, with Dan Mangold directing. \nThe concert will follow the Orange City Community appreciation meal. DESCRIPTION:ORANGE CITY – The Orange City Area Community Band will take the stage for their first 2014 concert on Wed. June 25\, and Tom Forkenbrock of Chicago will be the guest soloist. \nThe concert is beginning the 17th year of the band under the direction of Carla Van Beek. It is part of the Orange City Arts Council’s Onstage Orange City series\, and sponsored by Diamond Vogel Paint and Van Engelenhoven Agency. \nThe concert will be held in Orange City’s Windmill Park at 7:00pm. \nIt promises to be a fun-filled evening of music\, featuring some of Van Beek’s favorites over the past 17 years: A Day at Disneyland\, Grease!\, Pop & Rock Legends: Neil Diamond\,  I Dreamed a Dream\, Star Dust\, That Old Time Religion\, Praise to the Lord the Almighty and Flight of Valor.  \nForkenbrock\, who played trumpet with the U.S. Army Band for nine years\, will solo with the band this week. Forkenbrock will be featured in I Dreamed a Dream\, Star Dust and That Old Time Religion. \nThe Orange City native graduated from M-OC High School in ’82\, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He has performed for two presidents\, Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr.\, plus Prince Charles and other dignitaries from around the world. He also played for the Pan American Games and the ’88 Olympics in South Korea. \nSince leaving the Army\, Forkenbrock has performed with big bands\, wind ensembles and other performing groups in the Chicago area\, and with artists including Bill Watrous\, Dick Oatts\, Joe LaBarbera\, Chuck Findley and Bill Porter.  His bands have opened for Maynard Ferguson\, Buddy Rich\, Ramsey Lewis and Count Basie’s Big Band. \nForkenbrock regularly performs with “Brass From The Past”\, a 60’s-80’s classic rock\, Motown and soul group\, as well as in the College of Lake County Wind Ensemble.  He also plays French horn\, baritone and tuba\, but his first and most enduring love\, he said\, is the trumpet\, which he has played for nearly 40 years. \nForkenbrock is returning after performing with the Orange City Area Community Band in 2010 and ’11. \nThe concert is free and open to the public. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Concessions will be offered. \nRain location is Unity Christian Knight Center.
