ORANGE CITY – Kids’ Carnival. Parade. And concert by Bella Ruse.

The celebration begins at 3 p.m. with a carnival complete with a bouncy castle, face painting, dunk tank, photo booth, Mr. Twister, and many more games!  Decorate yourself, your pet or your bike and come to Windmill Park to be judged. (Show up at the windmill between 3 and 4:30) Prizes from Wheely Good Ice Cream will be given to the top three entries.  Then show off your creations in an old-fashioned parade on Central Avenue starting at 4:45 p.m.!

Join us for supper at 5 p.m. in the park with grilled burgers or hot dogs, with chips & lemonade. Freewill donation to help fund Onstage Orange City.

Later in the evening, Onstage Orange City presents Bella Ruse performing from 6-7:30 p.m.  Bella Ruse features Joseph Barker and Kay Gillette, from the Twin Cities.  For the past two years, this duo has been travelling across the country in their vegetable oil – powered van and opening for Sarah McLachlan, Heart, and Kate Nash along the way.  Their music is described as “airy folk and crunchy pop”.  Gillette’s voice and Barker’s guitar blend beautifully, and they occasionally add a typewriter, a suitcase organ, a glockenspiel, or kazoos for a truly unique indie pop sound.  Be sure to come for a great show!

This event is free of charge thanks to the Orange City Arts Council’s Onstage Orange City, the Orange City Chamber, CIVCO Medical Solutions, and Quatro Composites™, with help from many volunteers.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Concessions will be available. Rain location is the Orange City town hall.

Bella Ruse’s Kay Gillette: Kay Gillette, the voice of Bella Ruse, has been described as “a mix between Kate Nash and Regina Spektor”. Gillette describes the duo’s music as "feist plus a little jazz; Ella Fitzgerald plus a little folk; Yael Naim minus the accent. Or, sometimes we like to call it Cute Rock." Prior to becoming a duo, Gillette trained as a classical singer at Hope College in Holland, MI.

Bella Ruse’s Joseph Barker: Joseph Barker, one of the award-winning composers for Northwestern College’s musical, Terror Texts, plays guitar for Bella Ruse. His mournful melodies blend with Gillette’s unique voice to carry you deep into their musical world.
