ORANGE CITY – Blues, bluegrass, classic rock, theatre and juggling – they’re all part of the line-up for the fifth season of Onstage Orange City.
The Orange City Arts Council has announced its schedule of shows in Orange City’s Windmill Park for summer 2014.
The series will feature 14 Wednesday nights of entertainment, beginning with Orange City’s Got Talent! on May 28. It will be the fourth annual talent show, open to talent Orange City and nearby towns.
Onstage Orange City artists in June, July and August include SongBlast from the Twin Cities, classic rock group Exit 113 from Des Moines, the Chris O’Leary blues band from New York, and comic stunt juggler Tuey Wilson from Faribault, MN. Watoto Children’s Choir will also present its lively show, Beautiful Africa.
Monroe Crossing, from the Twin Cities, is scheduled for August 13, and is the only bluegrass band ever nominated as “Artist of the Year” by the Minnesota Music Academy. They showcased at the International Bluegrass Music Association Convention in ’07.
Favorites returning again are the Orange City Area Community Band June 25, July 9 and July 30; the SchoolHouse Company theatre troupe presenting You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown August 6; and Festival Latino on July 16. The final show, August 27, will be singer-songwriter Amy Noelck of Dallas, performing on the Northwestern College Green.
Summer Suites, the Orange City Arts Council’s progressive evening of music, stories, gardens and delightful sweets, will be on Wed., June 18. The show will feature cellist Hannah McGarvey, storyteller Jim Schaap and ventriloquist Lisa Laird, performing in three backyard gardens… the one ticketed event in the summer series.
Contributions by local businesses and individuals, with help from the Orange City Arts Council and City of Orange City, fund other shows, so they’re free to the public. Most shows will begin at 7:00pm in Orange CIty’s Windmill Park.
