Beloved Blues Singer Kelley Hunt Returns to Orange City for Free Outdoor Concert

Back by Popular Demand, Kelley Hunt and Her Band Bring Blues, Roots and Gospel Music to Northwest Iowa

Singer Kelley Hunt is bringing her soul-filled performance back to Orange City with a free concert in Windmill Park on Wednesday, July 1 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Hunt is a triple threat — attracting fans as she writes, arranges and plays her energetic, southern-style music. She performed with her band in Orange City three years ago, leaving a lasting impression. Her Iowa fan base is thrilled to welcome the powerhouse singer-songwriter back.

“She has drawn quite the following,” says Jane Vogel of Birdhouse Rentals, co-sponsor of the Onstage Orange City concert. “Her music has an uplifting message, and it draws all ages. It’s the kind of music you want to get up and dance to.”

Hunt’s tour stop will feature boogie-worthy new music from “The Beautiful Bones” — her sixth album.

She describes her toe-tapping tunes as a combination of blues, roots, Americana and R&B.

“A lot of it is upbeat with a few ballads. I’m really influenced by traditional gospel music, and most of the things are pretty uplifting and high energy,” Hunt says.

Hunt’s music has wide-reaching appeal.

“As a family, we’ve been following Kelley Hunt for 15 years,” says Lisa Burg of Orange City. Burg’s employer — Orange City Area Health System — is a co-sponsor of the concert. “Our children became fans. She’s an incredible singer. Everything she has produced we’ve loved. She has a huge range, is an amazing keyboardist, and truly crosses generations.”

Hunt’s performances draw fans from across the country. She has appeared six times on American Public Media’s A Prairie Home Companion and is currently embarking on a national tour.
But there’s just something about Orange City that draws her back.

“I’m really looking forward to coming — it’s a nice community with a beautiful setting,” Hunt says. “I know several people in Orange City, and I’m excited for the band to see it. Plus, I want to get some almond patties!”

The concert is part of Orange City Arts’ Onstage Orange City summer concert series. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the outdoor concert.

Unity Christian Knight Center in Orange City is the event’s rain location. For changes related to the weather or more information, visit orangecityarts.net or facebook.com/ocArts, email ocArts@orangecityiowa.com or call 712.707.4885.
