Onstage Orange City: Monroe Crossing

August 13, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

- Free

“A unique sound that truly is bluegrass.”

ORANGE CITY – Classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel and originals – it’s Monroe Crossing. The Twin Cities-area band takes the stage at Windmill Park in Orange City on Wed. Aug 13 at 7:00pm.

Monroe Crossing’s show is part of the Orange City Arts Council’s Onstage Orange City series. Sponsors are Quatro Composites™ and Community Bank of Alton & Orange City.

The evening will begin at 5:00pm with a motorcycle show, then a hot dog supper, with donations collected for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Following the bluegrass show, at dusk, will be the showing of “The Lego Movie,” sponsored by Orange City Parks & Recreation.

Monroe Crossing has been selected as an official showcase band at the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Convention in Raleigh, NC. They performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall last year as part of Carol Barnett’s “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass.” They were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2007.

The only bluegrass band ever nominated as “Artist of the Year” by the Minnesota Music Academy (MMA), Monroe Crossing won the 2003 MMA “Bluegrass Album of the Year” award.

Monroe Crossing includes five distinct personalities with differing musical backgrounds and tastes, combining for a unique ensemble sound. They are Derek Johnson: guitar, lead & harmony vocals; Lisa Fuglie: fiddle, mandolin, lead & harmony vocals; Matt Thompson: mandolin, fiddle, baritone vocals; Mark Anderson: bass & bass vocals; and David Robinson: banjo. Their paths crossed through the music of Bill Monroe, “the father of bluegrass music,” so they like to say they had a “Monroe Crossing.”

The group plays an average of 125 shows annually, at venues and festivals across the U.S. and Canada… and have recorded 13 CDs.

KCBL Radio of Sacramento said, “Monroe Crossing strikes again. Each and every song keeps you wanting more. I can foresee many of (their) original songs becoming classics down the line.”
