Regional musicians perform favorites, directed by Carla Van Beek

Fifteen years of excellence: On Wednesday, June 20 the Community Band will celebrate 15 years of performances under Carla Van Beek’s leadership, and the Orange City Arts Council’s 35th year. The program features movie classics including music from Star Wars, Jaws, E.T., and Rocky. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Windmill Park, part of the Onstage Orange City series. ORANGE CITY – Star Wars. Jaws. E.T. and Rocky.

 

Music from movie classics such as Star Wars, E.T. and Jaws as well as the theme for Rocky will be performed by the Orange City Area Community Band on Wednesday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at Windmill Park, Orange City.

 

As part of the Onstage Orange City series, the community band concert offers a wide variety of music appealing to a crowd of all ages. With movie theme songs and A Day At Disneyland, kids will be entertained, and the program also includes a Florentiner March and a concert band medley from Mancini! including Moon River, Baby Elephant Walk, and Hatari.  And more.

 

The Community Band is made up of some of the most accomplished musicians in the area, and is directed by Carla Van Beek, who has served as the director for 15 years. Van Beek is hoping to recognize the Orange City Arts Council as it celebrates its 35thyear, by playing some pieces from 1977.

Carla Van Beek celebrates 15 years of directing: This summer Carla Van Beek, Community Band director and band director at Unity Christian High, celebrates 15 years of directing the band. And the Orange City Arts Council, sponsor of the summer series Onstage Orange City, is 35 years old. In commemoration of this, Van Beek has selected some pieces from 35 years ago, 1977.

 

This event is free of charge, thanks to sponsor Diamond Vogel Paint.

 

Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Concessions will be available. Rain location is the Orange City town hall.
