ORANGE CITY – It’s a tradition in Orange City: a Christmas show produced by The SchoolHouse Company.
After two years of live radio plays, this year SchoolHouse Company, in conjunction with the Orange City Arts Council, is presenting a full-scale production. And it’s a holiday classic: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Director is April Hubbard of Orange City. The cast numbers 36 actors and actresses from area towns.
Performances will be held Dec. 6 – 8, and 13 – 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Orange City town hall.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is based on the book by Barbara Robinson and stars the Herdmans, “the worst kids in the history of the world.” They lie, cheat and give conks to the head. And, this year, they are part of the annual Christmas pageant. Everyone is convinced that it will be a disaster.
Everyone is surprised.
Cast members include Julianna Tien, Grady Zerse, August Hubbard, Micah Culpepper, Jacob Christiansen and Sydney Krommendyk as the Herdeman kids, and Jadeyn Veltkamp, Joey Bylsma, Susan Veltkamp and Kenton Pauls as the Bradley family.
The additional adult cast includes Lois Estell, Kara Smit, Brande Pals, Amanda Vander Stelt, Carla Larson, Micah Foster, Jonathan Foster, Darin Dykstra and Linda Dykstra.
Additional children in the cast are Haley Smit, Megan Bylsma, Lindsay Kuiper, Rachel Korver, Eli Dykstra, Dillion De Jong, Maria Ruiz-Stands, Ashley Huizenga, Anna Karen Pauls, Bella Drissell, Veroneca Ruiz-Stands, Briseyela Martinez, Hannah Culpepper, Ciara Dean, Nora Vande Brake, Colton Smit and Katherine Pauls.
Stage manager and assistant stage manager are Emily Wohlers and Lisa Haldeman.
The SchoolHouse Company has presented theatre and theatre classes in Orange City and Sioux Center for the past 4-1/2 years.
