Watercolor Batik Workshop
Create translucent watercolor on textured Japanese Paper

Batik is a century old process of decorating cloth using wax and dye. Using a similar process, you will create beautiful translucent watercolor paintings on textured Japanese paper. Judy will demonstrate and instruct each step of this unique and fascinating process. Come join us for a fun, hands-on workshop. Adult learners of all levels are welcome.
Class members will complete a tulip painting similar to the one below. Each student will use the same template, but all of the paintings will be unique.
The day will include a break for lunch.
Judy Thompson’s artwork has received regional and national awards and has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the Midwest. She has been selected twice as an Artist-in-Residence with the National Park System (Nebraska and South Dakota), and is an approved teaching artist for the Nebraska Arts Council. Through a grant, awarded by the Iowa Arts Council, her Homestead Series has toured the Midwest to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Homestead Act. Judy is a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and enjoys teaching drawing and painting techniques to students of all ages.
One of Judy’s most recent projects has been creating the cover art for recently released Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Ultra fine tip Sharpie Marker
Paper towels
Everyone is asked to bring old newspapers or news print (no magazine sections/color inserts)
Batik materials—wax, Japanese paper, wax brushes & professional grade watercolors—will be provided.
