Northwestern College chamber ensembles will present a concert on Friday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The concert, featuring the trombone ensemble and saxophone quartet, is free and open to the public.
The trombone ensemble will perform seven pieces under the direction of Dr. Angela Holt, director of instrumental studies and music education. Among the pieces are “Achieved is the Glorious Work,” composed by Franz Joseph Haydn; “A Kensington Portrait,” composed by Jared Spears; and “Send in the Clowns,” composed by Stephen Sondheim, originally from the musical “A Little Night Music.” Some other well-known pieces include the hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy” and “The Longest Time” by Billy Joel.
The saxophone quartet, also under the direction of Dr. Holt, will perform three pieces, including “Entrance of the Queen of Sheba” from “Solomon,” composed by George Frideric Handel; “October,” composed by Eric Whitacre; and “Libertango,” composed by Astor Piazolla.
“There’s something for everyone,” says Dr. Holt. “The concert presents music from many different styles in many different time periods. It’s a light performance that offers an opportunity to hear great music.”
To prioritize the safety of the musicians and audience members, masks will be required for the event. Physical distancing will be encouraged as families will be seated together in groups no larger than three persons.
