Orange City Arts will kick off the 2019-20 Season with a Roaring 20’s themed opening event on Friday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Prairie Winds Event Center in Orange City.
The first performance in the season features the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra’s “Spooky Silents” vintage Halloween film screening—a selection of hilarious silent films by comedy greats such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Laurel & Hardy, accompanied live with their original orchestral score and sound effects. The audience is invited to dress up in their best flapper looks and participate in pre-show activities and crafts, adding a festive flair to the opening event.
Between films, Peacherine will play the rollicking rhythms of the early 20th century, featuring favorites by Scott Joplin, Irving Berlin, and the creators of America’s first popular music: ragtime!
Founded in 2010 by Andrew Greene, Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra has been praised for its work to preserve and share America’s rich musical history through tours around the United States to bring audiences concerts and silent film programs. Hailed as the premier American ragtime ensemble by the Washington Post, the Peacherine Orchestra recreates the sounds of cinema for audiences across America, performing the original musical scores of classic silent films and allowing audiences to experience them as they were meant to be enjoyed.
Tickets are available for Peacherine Ragtime Society’s “Spooky Silents” October 11th performance at orangecityarts.net or by calling (712) 707-6514. Opening party activities will begin at 6:30 pm, and the performance will begin at 7:30 pm. For more information, visit orangecityarts.net.
