It was another great year of Summer Recreation Programming here in Orange City!
They introduced a new program, ‘Crafting Connections,’ which was led by Dawn Steggerda and Leanne Bonnecroy. They enjoyed creating and being social with 34 kids who participated.
Over 550 kids participated in this year’s programming, 100 parents volunteered as coaches, and many local high school and college students helped coach, ref, and teach! Additionally, 262 kids enjoyed public swimming lessons, 88 people attended the movie in the park, and in July, the Swimming Pool saw over 5,250 admittances!
One special additional activity was the bake sale, run by the 3rd-6th grade softball girls! They hosted this to support Hawarden and Rock Valley’s recreation programs, raising over $2,700! When asked about the summer, Park and Recreation director Noah Minnick shared, “I want to thank all the parents that helped volunteer to coach our summer recreation programs; without them, we would not be able to have our programs. I would also like to thank all the people who participated and made it a great summer!”
