Woudstra Family Park: Honoring a Legacy of Service

Orange City has a long tradition of leaders who serve with vision, dedication, and a deep love for community. Recently, Councilman Daryl Beltman suggested honoring this legacy by renaming Puddle Jumper Park to Woudstra Family Park, in recognition of the Woudstra family’s nearly five decades of service on the City Council.

For 49 of the last 55 years, a member of the Woudstra family has served on the Orange City City Council:

  • James Woudstra (1964–1974)

  • Leroy Woudstra (1976–1994)

  • Earl Woudstra (1999–2019)

Their leadership has guided Orange City through years of growth and prosperity, always rooted in a passion for seeing the community succeed and thrive for future generations. Earl’s additional service as Park and Recreation Director for 10 years and City Manager for 6 years makes the park dedication especially fitting.

In the past years, the park has developed into a vibrant space for recreation and gathering. Renaming it Woudstra Family Park not only reflects the physical growth of the park, but also the growth of Orange City under the leadership of this family.

Just as the Dunlop Wildlife Area was named to honor Mayor Dunlop’s long service, Woudstra Family Park now stands as a tribute to the commitment, vision, and leadership of the Woudstra family.

Recently, the shelterhouse area was completed and is now available for use. You can learn more about the amenities provided or reserve the shelter for your next gathering at the link below.
