The Northwestern College International Club will host its annual Cultural Fair on Saturday, Feb. 1. The public is invited to the event, which will include food and entertainment from around the world.
Northwestern’s International Club has selected the theme of this year’s Cultural Fair as “Cultural Avenue.” “The event will have an interactive street market atmosphere,” explains Tori Buckler, a sophomore from Pella, Iowa, who serves as vice president of the International Club. “International Club members will serve dishes from around the world at tables representing the foods’ countries of origin, which will enable attendees to learn about the students, their home countries and the cuisine.”
Fourteen students from Tokyo, Japan, who are visiting Northwestern for a three-week winter English program will also participate in the Cultural Fair.
The Cultural Fair will take place in the college’s Rowenhorst Student Center with the dinner beginning at 5 p.m. A stage show will follow at 5:30 p.m. International games and hands-on activities will also be available for attendees. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for individuals ages 4 to 15. Children ages 3 and younger will be admitted free of charge.
Northwestern’s International Club has nearly 120 members, 30 of whom are international students from 18 different countries.
The college’s International Club, founded in 1975, was created to support students from different countries and promote learning about their respective cultures. The club is open to both international and U.S. students, and it uses events like the Cultural Fair to build relationships that help the Northwestern community experience and practice positive cross-cultural interaction.
