The Orange City Fire Department is excited to welcome the new Tower 61 truck into service officially.
This truck will replace Ladder 61 (1998), which was evaluated as a need during long-term planning with the city and the department.
preparing to place a new $1.8 million tower truck into service, adding an articulating platform and upgraded scene lighting to its emergency response capabilities. The city provided the funding for Tower 61 as part of its strategic planning.
This truck includes new features that will allow for additional rescue positions. The truck also includes enhanced LED scene lighting that can be elevated over an emergency scene. Chief Dan Roghair says aerial trucks are used not only to spray water or conduct rescues, but also to support firefighters working on the ground.
Now that the truck has arrived in Orange City, training with the department will begin. They will focus on controls, safety procedures, and understanding the new features.  The Salix Fire Department is purchasing Orange City’s former Ladder 61. Once Orange City’s training is complete and the new truck is in service, Orange City firefighters will help train Salix personnel to operate the 1998 ladder truck.
