Meet Jenny Vogel. She grew up in Cape Coral, Florida, and gradually moved her way west and north after college. She has lived in Chattanooga and St. Louis, but after getting married, Jenny and her husband planted roots in Northwest Iowa. They have three kids, and Orange City has been home for the past 13 years.
A few years ago, Jenny took the leap into business ownership by starting Stitch Studio, a fabric and yarn shop in Orange City, with her business partner, Kathy.
Jenny took us along for a typical day living and working in Orange City, and her day highlighted the many amenities our community provides for a fulfilling quality of life.
Quality Private Education
The day started with school drop off for all three of her kids at Orange City Christian School (OCCS). While at the school, students, parents and community members gathered for a special Christmas chapel service.
Jenny also highlighted the Project Engage fundraiser the school is currently focusing on. Project Engage aims to raise funds for a building addition. Currently, OCCS has raised over $1 million in donations and pledges for the project.
Fulfilling Career
Next, we followed Jenny to work at Stitch Studio, located downtown Orange City. This time of year is especially busy downtown Orange City with holiday shoppers, and residents and visitors alike enjoy the ambiance of Dutch architecture decorated with Christmas lights while holiday music fills the streets.
Jenny highlighted the work that she does at Stitch Studio, offering high-quality and modern sewing and yarn supplies. Jenny and her business partner Kathy are also committed to teaching sewing and knitting classes, fostering creativity at any age or skill level.
Jenny and her family love how easy it is to get everywhere in Orange City, and she showed us this when she walked to Iowa State Bank over her lunch break.
“I love that I can walk to work. My kids can walk to school too, and they enjoy riding their bikes around town. They love to go to Don’s Food Center with their friends to buy candy,” Jenny shared.
Community Recreation and Activities
After work, Jenny took us along to the dog park. Located in Veteran’s Park and next to Kinderspeelland, the bark park is a frequent stop for many Orange City residents and their four-legged friends.
After the bark park, Jenny took her kids to the Orange City Public Library for a special scavenger hunt. The library offers programming for all ages, and Jenny shared that her kids love to ride their bikes to the library throughout the year to participate in activities.
After a quick supper, Jenny took us along to her daughter’s gymnastics recital in town. Elite Dance and Tumbling offers various classes for ages 3 – 18 in Orange City. The Christmas recital was enjoyed by many, and it was the perfect way for Jenny’s family to kick off their holiday break from school.
Thanks to Jenny and her family for showing us what a typical day of vibrant life looks like in Orange City. Quality education, positive work-life balance and family-friendly activities are just a few of the benefits our community offers. We invite you to explore all the other ways our community is committed to providing a vibrant life for you.
