Employment Opportunity: Public Works Director Job Opening for the City of Orange City
The City of Orange City is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Public Works Director to oversee operations across the City’s utility and infrastructure departments. This position plays a key role in ensuring the reliable delivery of essential services and in planning for Orange City’s continued growth and development.
As a key member of the City’s leadership team, the Public Works Director will guide capital improvement planning, support community development initiatives, and provide technical expertise and oversight on infrastructure projects that impact the future of Orange City. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills to collaborate effectively with city staff, leadership, contractors, and residents.
Primary Responsibilities
- Overseeing day-to-day operations across electric, gas, water, wastewater, and street departments
- Planning, budgeting, and managing capital improvement projects
- Providing leadership, training, and supervision to departmental staff
- Assisting with community planning and development initiatives
- Ensuring regulatory compliance and safety standards are met
- Collaborating with city leadership, contractors, and citizens to deliver high-quality public services
- Providing technical expertise for infrastructure maintenance and improvements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Engineering, Business, or related field; or Associate’s degree with relevant experience
- Experience in utility operations or public works leadership strongly preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, council, contractors, and community members
- Knowledge of municipal infrastructure systems and capital project management
