ORANGE CITY – Americana roots rock band plays blues, country and meat & potatoes rock.
For a sound that is “appropriately and unapologetically Iowan,” see the Des Moines-based rock band, Brother Trucker. Brother Trucker performs on Wednesday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at Windmill Park, Orange City, part of the Onstage Orange City series.
The band has been touring the Midwest since 2000, playing at festivals, bars, coffee houses, rallies, parties and a variety of other gatherings. Their first three albums were released by the Iowa Independent record label, Trailer Records, which features what they call, “The Iowa Sound”.
Band members Andy Fleming and Mike Fitzpatrick describe their music as a mix of blues, country and “meat & potatoes rock.” The band’s latest album, “The Flyover” (2009) is often compared with the Drive-By Truckers, a Georgia- based band, for both its sound and “big-rig handle”. Band members include Fleming, vocals and guitar; Fitzpatrick, lead guitar; Lyle Kevin Hogue, bass; and Jim Viner, drums.

Jim Musser, of the Iowa City Press Citizen, says the band “presents a heaping helping of their literate, soulful and cinematic brand of earthy, ‘pan-Americana’ music.”
This event is free of charge thanks to Northwestern Bank, who will be serving watermelon to the community beginning at 6:30pm. Northwestern Bank will also sponsor two bouncy castles for children, beginning at 6:30.
Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Concessions will be available. Rain location is the Orange City town hall.
