ORANGE CITY – “I think he’s nuts. Or he’s one of the X-Men and does this show to pass the time.”
That’s Tuey Wilson’s favorite quote from a fan. This comic stunt juggler from St. Cloud is bringing his nuttiness in Orange City’s Windmill Park Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 7:00pm.
Wilson’s show is part of the Orange City Arts Council’s Onstage Orange City series. Sponsors are Diamond Vogel Paint and Four-Way Roofing of Alton.
Wilson grew up skiing, skateboarding and waterskiing, all perfect for this self-described “introverted show-off.” His life changed when a friend loaned him professional juggling equipment… and he checked out jugglers at the Minnesota Renaissance Fair. So when he considered college and career options a few months later, he decided to set his sights on becoming a professional juggler.
He succeeded, and has been a crowd favorite at the Renaissance Fair for more than three decades.
Wilson likes performing stunts that involve the whole body. Rather than simply standing still while throwing things, he now has some bizarre skills: rope walking, ball spinning, balancing on a ladder, manipulating objects on mouthsticks, and more. At age 50, he mastered balancing on a ladder… on a rope… on fire!
In addition to manipulating props, Wilson also builds them, for himself and other professional jugglers. His ball-spinning mouthsticks are considered by many to be the best in the world.
Wilson – who is an unlikely blend of “regular guy” and “quirky oddball” — presents a blend of family-friendly comedy, jaw-dropping skills and danger.
The St. Paul Pioneer-Press said, “Modern people, TV-addled, sensation-drenched, hard to engage. Right?… Two minutes into Tuey’s act, they were goggling like tots.”
Come early for the family safety fair – 3:30 to 6:30. See a fire truck, walk through a giant inflatable heart to see how the heart works, check out the Sanford/ Great Plains Zoo express, and more.
Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Concessions will be available. Rain location is the Unity Christian Knight Center. For more information or weather-related announcements, see orangecityarts.net or facebook.com/ocArts, call 712-707-4885 or email ocArts@orangecityiowa.com.
