Northwestern College to host festival of culture Friday April 23

Northwestern College will hold the Beloved Festival of Culture on Friday, April 23. The public is invited to attend the event, which will take place on the campus green from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

The festival will combine elements from Northwestern’s annual Cultural Fair and Beloved Music and Arts Festival. With a theme of “A Celebration of Unity,” it will include an international fashion show, Bollywood dance, live music, inflatables, and food from around the world. Northwestern’s Jazz Band will open the entertainment portion of the festival.

“This event is an opportunity to celebrate the many cultures within our beloved community,” says Dr. Kevin McMahan, associate dean for intercultural development. “We’re eager to share the cultural riches of Northwestern.”

The meal will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu includes dishes from Afghanistan, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay and South Africa. The cost, which includes event admittance and the meal, is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 4–11. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs; face masks are expected. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the Rowenhorst Student Center.

This event is a collaboration of several Northwestern offices and student organizations, including the Intercultural Club, La Mosaic, Hispanic liaison office, Student Activities Council and admissions office.
