GUTHMILLER NAMED A “TOP CEO TO KNOW”
Orange City Area Health System Chief Executive Officer among Becker’s Hospital Review Top 90 CEOs
Marty Guthmiller was named among 90 “Critical Access Hospital CEOs to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review. Critical access hospitals are those that offer 24/7 emergency care and have no more than 25 inpatient beds. The executives honored by Becker’s “are experts in service line expansion, provider recruitment and retention, and the establishment of key partnerships. Their efforts ensure their hospitals serve as vital resources for their communities.”
According to Becker’s Healthcare, “The CEOs recognized in this list are devoted to high care quality, patient safety, and financial stability. These leaders bring crucial care services to their organizations, recruit top physicians, and join forces with larger hospitals and health systems that can provide additional resources.”
Guthmiller has spent more than 30 years of his career in healthcare. He began his tenure as CEO for Orange City Area Health System in 1994 and oversaw the planning, fundraising, and construction of its $29.6 million campus replacement project, which was completed in 2006. The health system includes four clinics, a 25-bed critical access hospital, birth center, comprehensive surgical services supplemented by Mako robotic-arm-assisted orthopedic procedures, a sports medicine clinic, a senior care campus, and a full range of ancillary medical services.
Guthmiller leads the health system’s 600-strong staff. He recently oversaw major initiatives focused on independent living, assisted living, and nursing home care for the senior population, resulting in the expansion of Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community services and facilities which eases staffing challenges for Prairie Ridge Care Center. Guthmiller also led the Orange City Area Health Foundation in the development of a new 36-condo 55-plus living community, Kanaal Huis at The Canals, constructed near the health system’s main campus this past year.
Guthmiller serves on a number of community boards, including the Orange City Development Corp., Iowa State Bank, the Early Childhood Development daycare center, and Community Health Partners. Previously, he served as the chair of the Iowa Hospital Association for two years and on the board of Northwestern College.
