Northwestern College band to present February concert

The Northwestern College Symphonic Band will perform a concert Friday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert’s theme—“The Water of Life”—is based upon Jesus’ words to the Samaritan woman in John 4:13-14. Anthony Iannaccone’s “After a Gentle Rain” will create space for reflection upon Jesus as the source of “living water,” while a rhythmic piece by Rossano Galante titled “Sailing With Whales” invites audience members on a sea-faring adventure.

Other composers of note include Australian composer Percy Grainger and Dutch composer Johan de Meij. Eric Whitacre’s emotive work titled “The Seal Lullaby” will also be performed, conducted by senior music education major Michael Hornback.

Northwestern’s Symphonic Band is preparing for a mission tour to Kansas City, Missouri, April 7 to 10. To donate to the trip or to recommend a possible venue, contact Dr. Angela Holt at angela.holt@nwciowa.edu.
