Five Northwestern College biology majors were selected for competitive off-campus research and study programs this summer.
Elliana Zerr was selected to participate in Wheaton College’s seventh annual Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts Symposium May 28 to June 1. A senior from Salem, Wisconsin, majoring in biology-health professions and theatre, she was chosen from among students at more than 180 institutions affiliated with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. Participants will interact with other academically curious students who share a passion for cross-disciplinary study and problem-solving as they hone their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
Megan VanGarven, a senior biology-health professions major from Jordan, Minnesota, was chosen to participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The 10-week experience includes a graduate-level research project in a lab with a faculty mentor.
Ainslie Robinson is participating in the 10-week Sanford Program for Undergraduate Research in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A senior biology-health professions major from Luverne, Minnesota, she will be working with a faculty mentor whose focus is pediatric neurological disorders.
Victoria Pavik, a senior from Fort Dodge, Iowa, majoring in biology-ecological science, was selected to serve as a horticulture intern at Iowa Arboretum and Gardens in Madrid, Iowa.
And Olivia Lott, a senior biology-health professions major from Papillion, Nebraska, was chosen to intern with Green Iowa AmeriCorps at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory in Okoboji.
