The musical “Bright Star” will be on stage at Northwestern College Feb. 15 and 20–22 in the England Theatre. The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. each of those evenings; there will also be 2 p.m. performances on Feb. 15 and 22.
Written by Hollywood actor Steve Martin in collaboration with Edie Brickell, “Bright Star” was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2016, the year “Hamilton” won for best musical. Set in the 1940s with flashbacks to the 1920s, it tells newspaper editor Alice Murphy’s story of young love, out-of-wedlock pregnancy and redemptive love.
Director Jeff Barker, Northwestern theatre professor, describes “Bright Star” as “a romance—where things work out the way you wish they would.” Love leads to heartbreak for Alice, but, Barker says, “it also paves a path to redemption. Love is transformational.”
Tickets for “Bright Star” are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available starting Feb. 3 for Theatre Patrons and Feb. 4–22 for the general public.
Tickets can be reserved at www.nwciowa.edu/tickets or by visiting the DeWitt Theatre box office between 5 and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday or between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday. The box office can also be reached by phone, 712-707-7098, or e-mail, boxoffice@nwciowa.edu.
