The Dutch Heritage Boosters will be selling poffertjes from The Little White Store on Wednesday, June 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Poffertjes, silver-dollar-sized pancakes and an Orange City favorite, are made possible thanks to volunteers from the Dutch Heritage Boosters. Each April, volunteers from the Dutch Heritage Boosters hold a “Mix Day” where over 1,000 bags of poffertjes mix are assembled. This mix is ready to be combined with other ingredients to create a fresh pastry cooked to perfection at the Little White Store.
Mix Day, like the Dutch Heritage Boosters committee itself, is made up of volunteers giving of their time to keep Orange City’s Dutch traditions alive. This year, numerous students from the local high schools joined adult volunteers to assemble some of the ingredients for the poffertjes mix. Their help and enthusiasm was appreciated at Tulip Festival and during other special events when the treats are served to all.
A highlight of the annual Orange City Tulip Festival, poffertjes are also served on select Wednesdays in Orange City throughout the summer months. Stay up-to-date on the Summer Poffertjes schedule by following the Dutch Heritage Boosters on Facebook.
