Northwestern College students will travel to Greece and England this summer as part of two study abroad programs offered by the college’s global education office.
The Greece course is designed for students in Northwestern’s Honors Program and will examine the influence of ancient Greek culture on a wide range of academic disciplines, including art, politics, philosophy and religion. Dr. John Vonder Bruegge, dean of arts and humanities and professor of biblical and theological studies, will lead the group of 12 students. They will be based in Athens and Nafplio and will visit several historic sites, including the Acropolis, Corinth, Mycenae, Meteora and the Oracle of Delphi.
A second course will take 10 Northwestern students to England, led by theatre professor Ethan Koerner. Students will spend most of their time in London, engaging in British culture through its theatres and museums. The group will attend live performances, including two at the Globe Theatre, a replica of the venue where many of Shakespeare’s plays were first performed. In addition, students will visit historic sites and explore the city’s markets, restaurants and parks.
Each course is worth four academic credits and fulfills the Northwestern Core requirement for cross-cultural studies.
